Tax return bill, aimed at President Donald Trump, faces court scrutiny
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signing statement on a bill requiring presidential candidates to release their tax returns was accompanied by assurances from prominent lawyers that it is constitutional.
It isn’t often that a governor’s bill-signing statement contains endorsements from prominent attorneys and law professors stating the new law will be constitutional.
