US departments at odds over Qualcomm’s 5G technology

The Federal Trade Commission says the Department of Justice wants to shield Qualcomm Inc. from antitrust laws. The DOJ, energy and defense departments say they are protecting national security interests.

In an inter-agency squabble, the Federal Trade Commission says the U.S. Department of Justice is attempting to shield technological giant Qualcomm Inc. from antitrust laws and a federal judge's ruling in an antitrust case now reaching the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Justice Department, joined by the Department of Energy and Department of Defense, says the court order threatens national security interests.
