Judge denies NCAA’s bid for a stay in athlete-compensation suit

NCAA defendants were denied a stay Friday on $45M in attorney fees and a 120-day extension to respond to plaintiffs representing college athletes.

The NCAA, ordered last month to drop some caps on its education-related compensation for athletes, was denied a stay of the ruling and a 120-day postponement to respond to plaintiffs' counsel's motion seeking $45 million in attorney fees and costs.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Nathanael M. Cousins ruled Friday the NCAA had not shown good cause for such a long extension. He gave them less than three months.
