MALIBU — After months of speculation, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas squashed rumors of his retirement at the annual Pepperdine University School of Law dinner.

“I’m not retiring,” Thomas said in response to Pepperdine president-elect James A. Gash’s question about what the justice once said at his retirement party. Instead, Thomas’ response hinted the end of his time on the Supreme Court might come with his death.
