Bill funding 12 judgeships passes legislature

Gov. Jerry Brown has until Sep. 30 to sign the bill into law, which would fund the first of 50 positions previously authorized by the legislature to address the statewide judge shortage.

Senate Bill 229, which would allocate $5 million to fund a dozen trial court judge
positions statewide, passed both legislative houses unanimously this week, the first
judge-funding bill to pass since 2007, just before the budget crisis began.
