State agencies get $1.6M to clear DNA kit backlogs

The Manhattan district attorney's office chose the California Department of Justice as one of 20 agencies to receive funding for evidence testing.

The Manhattan district attorney's office has approved grant applications of four California
law enforcement agencies that combined will receive $4.7 million to test 6,100 sexual
assault evidence kits, part of an initiative to reduce the nationwide evidence backlog.
