Insurers can't recoup settlement funds from 2008 Metrolink crash

Because the insurance for Metrolink operator Connex Railroad is governed by New York law, negligence cannot be grounds to exclude coverage for the crash that resulted in $200 million in victim settlements.

LOS ANGELES - Two insurance companies who paid out part of a $200 million settlement
following a 2008 Metrolink train collision in Chatsworth cannot reclaim the funds
despite the discovery of a safety violation by a Metrolink employee, a Los Angeles
County Superior Court judge ruled Friday.
