Another Up Year

Big business verdicts trump personal injury awards by a wide margin.

Last year's top verdicts in the state remained above the $30 million mark, and the top award, $631 million, was the largest in the nation.

The verdicts failed to beat 2007's top $1.5 billion patent award, but lawyers said the overall size shows juries are still willing to earmark large amounts.
