Associate general counsel Joseph K. West recounts Wal-Mart's efforts to enhance diversity in its legal department and in its retention of outside law firms.
On Sept. 17, Joseph K. West, associate general counsel for outside counsel management at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., participated in a panel on law firm diversity in Los Angeles that was hosted by the Associate of Corporate Counsel - SoCal chapter. West explained how Wal-Mart decided to become a leader in pushing for the hiring and promotion of more minorities and women in legal workplaces. Here is an edited transcript of what he had to say:
