A charity did not cheat the public or run an illegal lottery, a judge ruled after a two week trial, sharply rejecting a multimillion-dollar lawsuit by the state attorney general's office.

After more than four years of controversy and a two-week trial, a judge decisively rejected allegations by the state attorney general's office that a Madera charity cheated the public or conducted an illegal raffle.
The 37-page decision, issued last week, came as a relief to charitable organizations that raffle cars, trips, houses and other large prizes as major fundraising activities.
