Dechert LLP
Jennifer S. Swan
joined Dechert LLP as partner in Silicon Valley.
Swan joined Dechert LLP's Silicon Valley office as part of a national intellectual property duo from Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP, where she practiced for two decades. Dechert announced the addition of Swan and Howard W. Levine, who is based in Washington D.C. on Jan. 11.
"I had made very strong connections [at Finnegan ] and I'm extremely grateful for those, but I thought that the global platform at Dechert and the opportunity to work across different practice groups with lawyers who are at the top of their field was just too good of an opportunity to pass up," said Swan.
Swan specializes in intellectual property counseling and litigation focused on enforcement and defense of patent rights, as well as Hatch Waxman litigation. Her clients have ranged from large companies to life sciences startups, including in the chemical, medical device, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
"It's a unique practice in that I can use my litigation experience to help guide companies with their intellectual property development and make it stronger as they go through the phases of development of their companies," Swan said.
As a former law clerk to Chief Judge Randall R. Rader of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Judge Ronald Whyte of the Northern District of California, her litigation practice also includes appellate work.
Swan's and Levine's litigation work together began when she was based in Finnegan's Washington D.C. office and continued after Swan relocated to the Bay Area.
"We just have a really strong working relationship. I think actually being on two different coasts now we have found to be an advantage because we can take advantage of the time difference," she said. "We have really long working days now because I have three extra hours to work."
At Dechert, Swan looks forward to contributing her intellectual property experience to the firms, as well as working in collaboration with the firm's practice groups to help clients with their intellectual property needs as they develop their products.
Swan is a member of The American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Federal Circuit Bar Association.
